Install tries to compile something
Section titled “Install tries to compile something”The voice engine supports Python 3.12 and 3.13. On a newer default Python, the install can try to build packages from source. Pin the version so uv fetches 3.12:
uvx --python 3.12 inscienA PyMuPDF or “DLL load failed” error on Windows
Section titled “A PyMuPDF or “DLL load failed” error on Windows”InScien reads PDFs with PyMuPDF, which needs the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Install it from aka.ms/vc_redist, then start InScien again.
The browser did not open
Section titled “The browser did not open”InScien prints its local address when it starts, for example http://127.0.0.1:8000. Open that
address in your browser.
Search is not installed
Section titled “Search is not installed”Search and Ask need the search extra. Start InScien with it:
uvx --python 3.12 --from "inscien[search]" inscienAsk does not appear
Section titled “Ask does not appear”Ask needs Ollama running locally. Start Ollama and pull a model. Ask appears within a few seconds.
Zotero is not found
Section titled “Zotero is not found”Set the Zotero data folder on the Settings page, or set ZOTERO_DATA_DIR.
