Map

The map shows the papers you select and the works they cite, laid out by year.

Build a paper

A paper is on the map once it is built. In the sidebar, open a collection and use Build on a paper. A build:

1. Reads the reference list from the paper’s PDF.
2. Resolves each reference against OpenAlex, Crossref and Semantic Scholar.
3. Saves the result in your library, so the paper does not need building again.

A paper with no PDF in Zotero cannot be built.

Read the map

• Select papers in the sidebar to draw them and their references.
• Shared works are cited by more than one of the selected papers and stand out on the map.
• Click a work to see its title, venue, year, citation count and authors.
• Open a paper to read its PDF in the side panel.
• Filter the references by year or by citation count. Your selected papers always stay on the map.

The bar above the map counts the selected papers, their references, the distinct works those come to, the shared ones, and the references that could not be identified.
